A Surfside Beach man was killed Monday evening when a tractor-trailer used for transporting vehicles backed over him near the Myrtle Beach International Airport.
Bruce Jenkins, 76, died of massive trauma after the incident in a Hertz rental car maintenance lot, officials said. Jenkins was an employee of Hertz, Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said.
An Allied Systems vehicle carrier, driven by a 25-year-old Robbins, N.C., man, backed over Jenkins about 6 p.m., said Capt. David Knipes with Myrtle Beach police.
The carrier had two trailers and one of them had completely backed over Jenkins, Willard said.

No charges have been filed, but the incident remains under investigation, Knipes said.
Jenkins is the eighth pedestrian to die in Horry County this year.
