The Horry County Coroner’s Office has identified the 35-year-old man, who died after he was rescued from a rough surf in Myrtle Beach Sunday morning.
Raymundo Garcia from Gainesville, Georgia, died at Grand Strand Medical Center at 9:22 a.m., said Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
According to a release from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, dispatch received a call around 8 a.m. regarding a distressed swimmer in the area of the 24th Avenue North beach access.
Garcia was reportedly knee deep in the ocean with a young family member when a wave crashed over him, the release says. A lifeguard from John’s Beach Service and a family member rescued the man from the ocean.

The lifeguard, an off-duty EMT and a police officer performed CPR on Garcia, police say. Garcia was then transported to the hospital where he later died, according to the release.
“An autopsy is scheduled to determine cause of death,” Willard said.
