A moped driver killed Tuesday morning on S.C. 9 in the Longs area was identified by the Horry County Coroner as a 39-year-old Marion man.
Howard Christian Suggs was pronounced dead at the scene from internal injuries after the moped he was operating was struck in the rear by the driver of a sports utility vehicle, according to authorities.
Horry County Coroner Robert Edge released the victim’s name Wednesday morning after family had been notified and said an autopsy was completed at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which was reported about 9 a.m. on S.C. 9 in front of the Aberdeen Golf Course.

The moped and SUV were both traveling south on S.C. 9 when the driver of the SUV hit the moped from behind, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the highway patrol.
The SUV driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions. The crash remains under investigation by the Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team, according to Collins.
