While 90 percent of Garden City and Cherry Grove within Zone A have heeded the governor’s order to evacuate, half of Zone A residents are staying behind in some places Friday morning, according to Lisa Bourcier, Horry County spokeswoman.
Horry County officials are urging those remaining to pack up and seek shelter.
“Now is the time to leave,” said Bourcier around noon Friday.
There were roughly 200 people staying in Horry County shelters Friday, Bourcier said.
An 11 a.m. weather update revealed Hurricane Matthew could move closer to the coast than anticipated, potentially creating an 8 feet storm surge.
Earlier updates showed the storm traveling farther north before its big turn out to sea than thought Thursday, and there have been no changes to that forecast track.
Despite the nudge closer, Bourcier said no evacuations were anticipated for Zone B.
