The South Carolina National Guard is staging at Conway High School in preparation for Hurricane Matthew.
Public Affairs Officer 2nd Lt. Tracci Dorgan said the 178th Field Artillery Battalion and the 678th Air Defense Artillery were at the school in preparation for handling traffic control during the evacuation for Hurricane Matthew.
The evacuation is scheduled to start at noon Thursday.
Dorgan said the 300 guardsmen are sleeping at the high school and plan to stay after the storm to help if needed.
Never miss a local story.
“We’re neighbors helping neighbors,” Dorgan said. “We’re just here to help.”
