The North Myrtle Beach City Council voted unanimously Friday afternoon to approve a lease agreement with Go Ape Treetop Adventures for a new attraction at the city’s Park and Sports Complex.
The adventure includes rope trails that climb as high as 50 feet in the trees beside the lake, and will have Tarzan swings, bridges, tunnels and other challenges.
The attraction must be open by Sept. 1, according to the agreement.
Go Ape will pay the city a percentage of its annual revenue for the lease, but no less than $20,000.
The second reading is scheduled for July 7, but council members said Go Ape could begin construction before then so it won’t lose time meeting the deadline, said Pat Dowling, North Myrtle Beach spokesman.
He said Mayor Marilyn Hatley said she’s happy with the vote and called Go Ape “a great organization.”
