Distressed home sales in 2012 made up 19.71 percent of all home sales in Horry County and 10.79 percent in Georgetown County, according to figures form RealtyTrac, the leading supplier of real estate data.
The figures showed. Horry County had 1,226 distressed home sales in 2012, a figure that ranked second to Charleston County – 1,272 sold – in South Carolina. But Charleston’s distressed homes were a smaller percentage of total sales than they were in Horry.
There were 70 distressed home sales in Georgetown County.
The number of distressed homes sold in Horry during 2012 was up 6.15 percent from 2011 and 54.6 percent from 2010. The average price paid for a distressed home in Horry County was $121,503, up 1.07 percent from 2011 and down 12.10 percent from 2010.
The $153,614 average price for a distressed home in Georgetown County was up 2.89 percent from 2011 and down 23.1 percent from 2010.
Statewide, buyers paid an average of $122,951 for distressed homes in 2012, which was down 4.61 percent from 2011 and 12.44 percent from 2010. Distressed home sales were 15.54 percent of all homes sold in the state in 2012.
