What beckons these spring days more than sunshine? Dirt. Nice dark, can't-wait-to-get-it-under-my-fingernails dirt.
I've been planting off and on the last few weeks: burying a few sunflower seeds next to a fence, a tomato plant close by, marigolds into a pot, and random flowers here and there.
I do not have my mother's green thumb, so know full well I will probably never nosh on a homegrown tomato from that promising plant or put my very own plate-sized sunflower into a vase.
But hope always springs eternal, so I will always plant something.
During April, go for it. Plant a flower, a vegetable, a plan, a seed of an idea or one of friendship. Water it, give it sunlight and warmth and love. Because, after all, you never know. You never, ever know.
