The menangerie had to move when John and Dona decided to retire to Myrtle Beach after leaving their homestead of 30 years in Orchard Park, N.Y. This included Alaska, the Russian Blue cat; Roxanne, the Yorkshire terrier dog; Spirit, the budgie; and Puff, the bearded dragon. John, a paraplegic of 16 years, has regenerated his "”pet room,” otherwise known as the “Herp Hut.” It is a designated room off the workshop where many more pets live, including horned mountain lizards, crested and leopard geckos, fat tailed geckos, veiled chameleons, fresh water fish and shrimp, and a beta fish or two. John takes great enjoyment in seeing eggs hatch, having incubated, and growing the babies until they are ready to be sold to local pet stores.
John’s interest in pets has been a great hobby. John’s support comes from amazing neighbors and family. Most days include a trip into the “Herp Hut” to care for and feed his reptiles. Dona does the same in the house for Alaska and Roxanne. Spirit has passed on, as well as Puff the bearded dragon. That’s when Bonnie and Clyde came on the scene. They are the horned mountain lizards and are very docile and sweet. John assures Dona that there are no snakes or spiders lurking in the collection.
