Ship’s Pub sailed into Pawleys Island close to a year and a half ago and is already a regular haunt for many locals. This young restaurant has kept true to its name by providing an array of delicious pub grub in a nautical atmosphere. The crew has also become known for their friendliness and efficiency.
Guests are encouraged to sit themselves where they please, including outside when the weather permits. Depending on the time of day, the customers will have two menus to look over. At the beginning of April, Ship’s Pub started offering brunch with options available from opening until 3 p.m., including mimosas and sangrias.
If breakfast for lunch isn’t what you’re craving, appetizers like sesame tuna or calamari might help kick start your hunger. Soups and salads are also available for lighter meals, and kids under 12 can enjoy something from the Little Dinghy’s menu, like a pancake dog or popcorn shrimp.
The main haul in Ship’s Pub comes from the sandwiches and pub plates. Their burgers are hand patted before being cooked to order, and the restaurant lets guests know ahead of time that these may take a bit longer to arrive. Regulars find the final product to be worth the wait, especially when it comes to The Kraken, which is a massive burger topped with three cheeses, bacon, onions, mushrooms, and a fried egg.
Never miss a local story.
Other popular choices include any of the pub’s crab cake creations, which are also made in house with the crew’s own secret seasoning. This, along with the house made spicy remoulade sauce, makes for an amazingly complex crab cake BLT that comes with a kick and is sent over the top with a few slices of avocado.
Fries or house made chips come with all the burgers and sandwiches but can also be switched out for a dollar. The other sides include sweet potato fries, coleslaw, sautéed vegetables, and tater tots. Ship’s Pub does let guests know when there are gluten free options, but with the sandwiches that usually means simply foregoing the bun.
Specials are regularly on deck here, especially for the ever popular Taco Tuesdays and Thirsty Thursdays, but also for Fresh Fish Fridays. Happy Hour is celebrated from Monday through Saturday as well, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with discounted beers and appetizers.
Ship’s Pub is tightly run with owners that have a focus on bringing smiles to the customers’ faces and are often out on the floor as servers. Their prices are reasonable and the crew has already established a rapport with the community, so although the occasional wave may break, it looks like Ship’s Pub has some smooth sailing ahead.
