If getting a call from a bill collector isn’t bad enough, having one threaten to serve a warrant in pursuit of the money is even worse.
Talk about a modern-day horror story.
Even though some residents might be short of money, there is a bright side to the story.
The collection calls are apparently not coming from law enforcement.
Never miss a local story.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office assured residents last week that they are not in the business of calling homes and demanding money for past-due bills.
“The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office never uses telemarketing to levy fines or advertise to individuals with warrants to make immediate restitution over the telephone,” according to a recent press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Georgetown County Sheriff Lane Cribb said anyone who receives such a call should report it to law enforcement.
“Please, again, be cautious of anyone calling and asking you for money,” investigators said.
