‘Pippin’ opens at CCU
The Coastal Carolina University’s Department of Theatre has opened “Pippin,” a Tony Award-winning musical set in the Middle Ages.
The plot follows the son of Charlemagne, a young prince coming of age, who in a journey to find ultimate fulfillment, discovers the most important elements in life are love and family. The story’s based on a book by Roger O. Hirson, with a written by Tony and Oscar-winning composer Stephen Schwartz, whose numbers include “Magic to Do” and “Morning Glow.”
Shows are 7:30 p.m. daily through Saturday, and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Feb. 9, with a 3 p.m. matinee on the final day, in CCU’s Wheelwright Auditorium, off U.S. 501 in Conway. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 CCU and Horry-Georgetown Technical College faculty and staff, and ages 65 and older, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members; and $5 CCU and HGTC students and ages 17 and younger.

HGTC showcases two artists’ works
Paintings by two local artists, Tommy Davis and Michael Craig, are on exhibit through April 1, in Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s Richardson Gallery, off U.S. 501 in Conway.
The works are characterized by bold, vibrant color, with some humor and unexpected subject matter and visual stories, using layers of detailed parts.
The exhibit is open 2-5 p.m. Mondays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays-Thursdays, and 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Fridays, and admission is free.

Black History Month Film Festival
The “Strand Cinema” group has teamed up with the Cultural Council of Georgetown County for the Black History Month Film Festival, at the Strand Theater, 710 Front St., Georgetown.
Admission for each screening is $5 for ages 13 and older, otherwise $3. Details at www.strandcinema.org.
Also, the Swamp Fox Players troupe will present “Souvenir” 8 p.m. March 1-2, 8-9 and 15-16, and 2:30 p.m. March 10 and 17, for $15.

‘Fun and Fitness’ month at park
Huntington Beach State Park kicks off its “Fun and Fitness in February” series of programs with “Crossfit,” with Crossfit Vengeance, 9-10 a.m. Saturday.
Almost all of the programs are free with park admission: $5 ages 16 and older, $3.25 S.C. seniors, $3 ages 6-15.
