A Conway man died early Wednesday in a single vehicle crash in Horry County, according to authorities.
The crash was reported at 2:20 a.m. today on U.S. 378 near Hampton Road, said Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the highway patrol. The crash involved a 1997 Mercury four-door car, and the driver was killed.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said the driver was Thomas Jones, 26, of Conway. Jones was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he died at 4:30 a.m. today from multiple trauma.
Jones, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was driving east on U.S. 378 and went off the right side of the road, Collins said. He then crossed over to the left side of the road and the vehicle struck some trees and overturned.
Jones' death is the first vehicle crash fatality to occur in Horry County this year.
Two pedestrians were struck by vehicles and killed in February and March, according to authorities.
On Feb. 9, Christopher Albright, 61, of Surfside Beach died after being struck while walking along U.S. 17 in Surfside Beach.
On March 3, Willie Lee Green, 58, of Loris died after being struck by a vehicle while walking along Edwards Road in Aynor.
