An Horry County jury convicted a 35-year-old Murrells Inlet man and a judge sentenced him to 34 years in prison in the 2005 murder and armed robbery of a 24-year-old man.
Tyrone Beaty was convicted of murder and armed robbery after jurors deliberated Thursday evening and Friday, according to court officials. Circuit Court Judge Steven John sentenced Beaty to 34 years on the murder charge and 30 years on the robbery charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
Beaty’s trial began July 12 with jury selection and opening statements the following day. The charges against Beaty stemmed from the October 2005 death of Miles Slay. Two other men, Corey Smalls and his cousin, Antonio Smalls, also face similar charges in the death.
Slay’s body was found inside a Toyota Highlander parked at the Masonic Lodge No. 421 on Butler Road in Socastee on Oct. 21, 2005.
