Horry County police are investigating the death of a taxi driver shot and killed in Conway, according to Krystal Dotson, spokeswoman for the Horry County Police Department.
Detectives were on scene at Juniper Bay Road investigating a man’s death, the police department said in a tweet Monday morning. Part of the road was closed temporarily to through traffic, but has since been reopened.
Police were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. and found a taxi driver dead from a gunshot wound.
The man died at Conway Medical Center, and his identity will be released as soon as family members are contacted, according to Deputy Coroner Dennis Fowler. An autopsy was ordered and will be scheduled as soon as possible, Fowler added.
An Imperial cab was towed from the scene that was blocked off by crime scene tape.
No gun was recovered during a search of the scene and the suspect remains at large, according to Dotson.
Police believe the suspect fled the scene on foot, Dotson said.
Back in November, another cab driver was shot and killed as he was sitting in his cab in Conway.
No information has been released yet on the suspect, and anyone with information is asked to call HCPD at 843-915-8477.
