A new Myrtle Beach Waffle House, a Mac ‘N’ Cheese bake-off and more Grand Strand restaurant news and notes

An open and shut case for Aug. 28, 2014
• A Waffle House is almost completed at Frontage Road East by U.S. 501, near the U.S. 17 Bypass interchange in Myrtle Beach. The restaurant will be open 24 hours featuring eggs, bacon, omelets, steak, burgers, salads, pancakes, and much more. The restaurant offers the full menu 24 hours a day and is open 365 days a year. The new Myrtle Beach location joins 10 other Waffle Houses already in operation along the Grand Strand.
• A new doughnut shop opened its door this week in Myrtle Beach offering guests doughnuts that are hot, hand-dipped and topped to order. The Fractured Prune Doughnut opened its first South Carolina location at 6 a.m. Tuesday at 201 Fresh Drive in Myrtle Beach. The first arriving customers had a chance to win several prizes including free doughnuts every month for a year, free T-shirts and free doughnuts by the dozen. The first 100 customers who walked through the door received a scratch-off ticket revealing their prize.
• As we reported earlier, a brand new burger joint has now opened in North Myrtle Beach. Headquartered in North Palm Beach, Fla., BurgerFi is one of the nation’s fastest growing all-natural burger concepts. BurgerFi dedicates itself to dishing up burgers that are always fresh and made-to-order. Menu items include burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, shakes, beer and wine. BurgerFi serves all-natural beef in a hip, environmentally-friendly atmosphere that features chairs made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles, tables made out of compressed recycled wood, and large fans that use 66 percent less electricity than nine small ceiling fans combined. The new restaurant, which opens every day at 11 a.m., is located at 801 Main Street in North Myrtle Beach.
• The Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Award is presented to restaurants with wine lists offering unique selections that are appropriate to the cuisine. Croissants Bistro & Bakery in Myrtle Beach earned the award after featuring more than 100 wines from all over the world. In order to earn a Wine Spectator Award, the wine list much consist of a well-chosen selection of quality producers, as well as a thematic match to the menu. Throughout the year, Croissants Bistro & Bakery hosts a wide variety of wine dinners with food pairings, as well as art and wine tasting events. The restaurant is located at 3751 Robert M. Grissom Parkway and takes reservations by phone at 448-2253.
• Starting in September, students at Coastal Carolina University won't have to walk or drive to the nearest Starbucks. CCU is one of three campuses across the nation where a Starbucks mobile truck will drive around campus this fall as part of a pilot program. The Starbucks food truck will offer the same menu of food and drinks that customers can get in a regular brick-and-mortar store. The trucks will move to various campus locations throughout the day. The CCU service begins Sept. 18.
• Are you looking for a fresh market to visit on the south end of the Grand Strand? The Farmers Market in Surfside Beach offers many fresh fruits, veggies, baked goods, flowers, seafood, and dog treats. The Farmers Market is located at Harrison Park off of Surfside Drive and opens every Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
• Is your mac-and-cheese the bomb-diggity? Then put your money where your pasta is and enter the inaugural Mac ‘n’ Cheese Bake-off set for Sept. 20, hosted by Crady’s Eclectic Cuisine in downtown Conway. Entry fees are $50 for businesses, restaurants and non-profits, $25 for home-based cooks and $15 for students. Proceeds from the event will help fund a Culinary Arts scholarship at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. For entry forms and more information, go to www.cradys.com.
