• A new coffee spot is brewing in Carolina Forest where guests can enjoy drinks, food, acoustic concerts and a cozy atmosphere. At 2,500-square feet, this coffee spot has lounge and cafe seating areas, a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee and good conversation. Located at 2070 Oakheart Road, Fat Cat Café offers locally-roasted coffee that is top notch. On the menu, Fat Cat Café offers homemade quiches in four different flavors, pastries, specialty sandwiches, espresso beverages, iced coffee and blended iced beverages. • Croissants Bistro & Bakery is offering an early chef’s tasting menu from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. For $20, guests can enjoy a bowl of French onion soup or a wedge salad before the dinner entrée. Guests can pick from three dinner entrees, such as shrimp & grits, apricot glazed crispy flounder or the flat iron streak. • Have you ever said, “I’m dying of thirst?” If so, we bet you didn’t really mean it. But, in many developing countries, people walk for hours, up and down mountains, just to collect water that can make them really sick. One local boy is hosting an Eggstavaganza Party on his birthday to donate 100 percent of everything raised to fund water projects. Abishai Powers is the founder of Abishai’s Foob Lab. Abishai will be the one preparing and serving food at his party. The party begins 6 p.m. today (July 17) at Warehouse 14 at 739 Sandy Lane in Surfside Beach. The cost to attend is $10. • Joe’s Fresh Burgers and Sports Bar is open for business at 1300 S.C. 544 near Coastal Carolina University. Joe’s is erving burgers, ribs, chicken, steak, shrimp, wings, salads, sandwiches, milkshakes and a full bar. Happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. everyday, featuring 50-cents wing and $5 appetizers. Joe’s Express offers takeout service featuring a large hamburger combo with fries and a drink for $5 all day, every day. Call ahead at 349-1111 to have your order ready for pick up.
• Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is turning up the heat and has introduced the Up In Smoke menu for summer. A selection of new, limited-edition signature dishes and specialty cocktails draws inspiration from the smoky flavors of chipotle and poblano peppers - and perhaps a nod to the stoner humor of Cheeck and Chong. Entrees include the fully-blazed chicken mole pie, Mel’s fattie, smokin’ shrimp calzone, holy mole hoagie, shrimp rajas salad, chicken poblano bowl, tortilla soup and the psychadelic cookie sundae for dessert. The Up In Smoke menu will be available at 1571 21st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach through July 27.
• Twenty years ago Collectors Café was created by friends Thomas Davis and Michael Smith, both artists, looking to bring a little more culture to the Myrtle Beach area. Today the 6,000-square-foot gallery shows more than 100 new works of art by artists from around the globe. During the Collectors Café and Gallery 20th anniversary summer art show many artists dating back to the beginning, as well as up-and-coming artists, are exhibiting. Artists include Laurence Feir (metal sculptures), David McCure (metal sculptures), Karen Wyles (photography), Alex Powers (pencil), Karen Edgar (charcoal), Bobbi Holt (mixed media), Kimberly Dawn (mixed media), and Katy Gilbert (acrylic). The summer art show runs through Sept. 15. The show is free to the public. Collectors Cafe is at 7740 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. Hours are noon to midnight Monday through Saturday.
