11 a.m.-7 p.m. happy hour at The Islander
If ever a name fits an establishment, it’s here.
Sometimes this place just goes by its nickname, The Der. It’s the laidback portion of Pawleys Island. The wood looks weather-beaten. The patrons act like friends. The jukebox could kick out outlaw country one minute then jam some heavy metal the next, only to segue into some reggae.
There are a couple of pool tables and couple of dart boards that look like they’ve seen heavy traffic. There’s an outside tiki bar that opens Friday through Sunday, and live music gets going from Thursday through Sunday.
The menu makes it simple and cheap – burgers and dogs and nachos and wings. Throw in some southwest eggrolls, and keep it all under the $10 mark.
Tuesday through Saturdays, the kitchen rolls out some cool specials. Taco Tuesdays start it off with $2 beef tacos. Fish tacos are also on the special. Wednesday slings crab cakes over grits with a tomato basil aioli. Thursday heaps on a fried green tomato and pimento cheeseburger. Friday sizzles with a fish fry. Saturday makes the most of the grill with barbecue ribs, chicken and pork chops. The prices on the specials vary.
The happy hour times are incredible, running from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Domestics in cans and bottles go for $2. Imports are $2.75. House liquors are $3, and Fireball can blaze you up for $4 all day.
The Der is open from 11 a.m. until 4 a.m. every day.
If you’re a Carolina football fan, this is the place for you. The Islander is proud to be a Gamecocks bar. During football season, every Gamecocks score equals a free shot to everybody in house watching the game.
Not to be too exclusive, they also provide the NFL package and plenty of TVs to partake.
