Shake off your haunted hangovers because there’s more costumed calamity scheduled for Thursday - you know, the night that’s actually, officially Halloween…
Round up your brood for Halloween on the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, which hosts two age-appropriate contests tonight, and adult revelry on into the night after the li’l goblins have gone to bed. Trick-or-treating starts at 5 p.m. Thursday along the MarshWalk, and the kids costume contest will be judged at the pirate statue behind Drunken Jack’s at 6 p.m. Prizes awarded for scariest, funniest and most creative. Then it’s time for the adults to party starting at 7 p.m., with the MarshWalk’s various eateries and watering holes offering drink specials, and live performances by the Austin Mowery Band, Bullfrog, Ten Toes Up, N’ Tranze and Justin Mychals & Hot Sauce. And surely you’ll want to vie for the $1,500 first place prize in the adult costume contest (second place ain’t too shabby either, $750). So listen up, contestants must visit the following establishments on the MarshWalk - Bovine’s, Wahoo’s Fish House, Drunken Jack’s, Bubba’s Love Shak, Creek Ratz, Dead Dog Saloon and Wicked Tuna - see a judge, register and receive a paper wristband. You must collect all seven wristbands to be considered in the final judging, which starts at 10 p.m. at Wicked Tuna. The MarshWalk is off U.S. 17 Business in the heart of Murrells Inlet. For more information, call 497-3450 or visit www.marshwalk.com.
And yes, Celebrity Square was already the scene of a massive Halloween party/costume contest last Saturday but the cobblestone-lined entertainment district at Broadway at the Beach is gearing up for another opportunity for adults to play dress-up on Thursday. The clubs of Celebrations Nitelife - Club Boca, Froggy Bottomz and Malibu’s Surf Bar - host a Halloween Bash and Costume Contest boasting more than $2,000 in cash and prizes. Doors open at 8 p.m. No cover charge for partiers wearing costumes. If you already registered for the costume contest, you must be at Malibu’s by 9 p.m. A limited number of contestants will be accepted on a walk-up basis, but you, too, must be at Malibu’s by 9 p.m. One Bad Apple performs from 8-10 p.m. in Froggy Bottomz, followed by Diversity at 10 p.m., and DJ BZ spins all night long at Malibu’s. Club Boca, Froggy Bottomz and Malibu’s Surf Bar are at Celebrity Square, Broadway at the Beach, Myrtle Beach. Call 444-3500 or visit www.celebrationsnitelife.com.
Although dining and shopping was impacted by the recent devastating fire on Front Street, the 4th annual Taste of Georgetown, showcasing the culinary offerings of 20 of the port city area’s restaurants is slated for Saturday on Front Street between Queen and King Streets. The event also features performances by the Fourclosures, The Highliners and the Hi Lo Duo. Similar to the recently held Taste of the Town, you purchase $1 tickets to sample the chef’s dishes, with most tastes going for 2-3 tickets apiece. Participating restaurants include the River Room, Rice Paddy, Land’s End, Thomas Cafe, Big Tuna Raw Bar, Portofino’s on the Wharf, and Zest, which was displaced by the fire. Taste of Georgetown is from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission charge. The event benefits the Family Justice Center, a non-profit organization aiding victims of domestic violence. Go to www.tasteofgeorgetownsc.com for more info.
Coach Joe Moglia’s Coastal Carolina University gridiron gang looks to stay undefeated as the Chanticleers (8-0) take on the Charlotte 49ers (4-4) at Brooks Stadium on Saturday - and oh yeah, it’s also CCU’s homecoming weekend. The kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Saturday. At press time, $18 tickets were still available via www.ticketreturn.com. Brooks Stadium is at 540 University Blvd., Coastal Carolina University, Conway (you can see it from S.C. 544). For more information, call 347-TIXX (8499) or go to www.goccusports.com.
Keeping up with the revolving door of departing and returning personnel is almost a full-time job for fans of emo/screamo outfit Taking Back Sunday (“MakeDamnSure”), which returns to the House of Blues on Saturday, and there’s an unusual but temporary change for the band as Underoath vocalist Spencer Chamberlain will sit in for TBS’ lead singer Adam Lazzara who is on leave to attend to family matters. According to venue officials, if you already bought a ticket and seeing Chamberlain sub for Lazzara rubs you the wrong way, you can get a refund. Also on the bill are The Maine, Anberlin and Polar Bear Club. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $27.50 to $39. House of Blues is at 4640 U.S. 17 S., Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach. Call 272-3000 or visit www.houseofblues.com/myrtlebeach.
