Remember the Oscar-winning Johnny Depp flick “Ed Wood”? Well, let’s call this Ed Wood, with a twist. Wood’s career defining sci-fi flick “ Plan 9 from Outer Space,” which has been dubbed “the worst movie ever made” by noted film critic Michael Medved, will be subjected to even more ridicule when the pranksters of RiffTrax Live take to the screen Thursday at Cinemark 14. You may remember these guys - comedians Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett – from their show “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” which was basically the same concept: roll an awesomely bad flick, and crack jokes about it. Original local rock act I, God is set for its first reunion since 2007 on Friday and the show at Hot Fish Club is billed as its last gig…ever…which is right up there in the rock ‘n’ roll playbook between the Farewell Tour and the Reunion Tour. Anyhow, the band features local notables guitarist Bradley Roberts (who now lives in Georgia), bassist Patrick O’ Leary, drummer Mark Holt and guitarist Kyle Thrash (who is moving to Colorado). Also on the bill are local deejay duo Catpuncher & The Mayor (Brian McKenzie and Chrissy Kotsopoulos) and local rockers SharkLegs. The show is set for 9:30 p.m. Friday. There is no cover charge. And the reunion vibes keep going on Saturday as The Drag, the notorious Brit Pop-influenced Myrtle Beach outfit that enjoyed a cup of coffee on national label Island Records which released the band’s “Satellites Beaming Back at You” in 1996, regroups for a one-night affair at Pirate’s Cove in North Myrtle Beach. The Ferns and Sapphire are also on the bill. In addition, Conway-based boutique label Turnip Farm Records will also be on hand peddling The Drag’s music on vinyl along with other Myrtle Beach rock-related items. We unbelievably just overheard someone ask, “when is the Super Bowl?” So, in case you don’t know, that big football game that people keep babbling about is Sunday as the AFC champion Baltimore Ravens, led by retiring linebacker Ray Lewis, take on the NFC champ San Francisco 49ers, featuring quarterback sensation Colin Kaepernick, at New Orleans’ Super Dome. Oh yeah, and you might hear about a storyline involving the two teams head coaches: San Fran’s Jim Harbaugh is the li’l bro of the Ravens’ John Harbaugh, the first time siblings have faced off as head coaches in the Super Bowl. The televised hype begins early in the day, but kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday on CBS (that’s WBTW for locals). Beyonce, fresh off of her did-she, or didn’t-she lip synch at the presidential inauguration, is the featured half-time performer.
