Here are some favorites for the tourists coming to town, from well-known venues to hidden gems, by digital general manager Todd Garvin:
Best creme-filled doughnuts
Everyone is well-aware of the allure of grabbing a hot, fresh glazed doughnut from the place with the big, red sign, but if you’re looking for a stuffed pastry treat, the Donut Man at 200 S. Kings Highway can’t be beat.
A dozen filled doughnuts, with everything from their perfectly sweetened creme to jelly to custard, could possibly weigh the same as a newborn baby. The treats are made fresh daily, always soft and delicious as you take your first bite.
The Donut Man also has a wide variety of other flavors, from red velvet cake to peanut to powdered sugar with chocolate filling. The coffee is excellent, making for a perfect blend of sweet and savory to kick off a day in Myrtle Beach.
Check out one of the hidden gems the Grand Strand has to offer the next time you’re craving something for your sweet tooth.
Best Meat and Sides Joint
The Grand Strand is famous for its seafood buffets and eclectic offerings, and one that goes unnoticed by most is Victoria’s Country Cookin at 1102 Third Ave. S.
If you’re looking for fancy, pass right on by. If you’re looking for down-home fixings served full of country flavor and a smile, pull up a chair.
Victoria’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with all the classics, from biscuits and gravy, hash, burgers, fries, chicken and more.
They have daily specials that often include a meat, three sides and drink for less than $10. Choose some of the amazing homemade soup or sweet desserts as those sides, as well.
Victoria’s Country Cookin is most loved by locals for Mondays, when fried or grilled pork chops are always the special, or Turkey Thursdays, when you can have a Thanksgiving treat weekly.
The next time you’re in the mood for a satisfying meal that won’t break the bank, check out the menu at Victoria’s.
Best Buffet You Probably Don’t Know About
Just off U.S. 501 at 300 George Bishop Parkway in Myrtle Beach is a must-visit destination for barbecue lovers.
Big D’s Barbecue Barn has fresh made pulled pork daily, with both a vinegar base and plain smoked, with several homemade sauces to appease those who like their meat from sweet to tangy.
Order off the menu or enjoy an amazing buffet, which includes pulled pork, fried chicken, barbecue chicken, chicken bog, amazing sweet potato casserole, cornbread, Brunswick stew, a plethora of fresh vegetables and banana pudding.
Those seeking a lighter meal can order a meat and side(s), pulled pork sandwich and fries and more. The ambience will remind you of a country picnic, with lots of wood, antiques and a few stuffed critters on the wall.
If you’re craving that out-back, barbecue taste, Big D’s is sure to satisfy.
Best Place to Pop The Question
If you’re planning on making your Myrtle Beach trip extra special and want that memory to be everlasting, how about proposing on one knee 200 feet above Ocean Boulevard?
The SkyWheel is one of the area’s most popular attractions, and has become a go-to place for men ready to ask their sweethearts to tie the knot.
The enclosed, climate-controlled cars meander around the giant wheel, offering stunning views of the ocean, beach and downtown Myrtle Beach. One such groom-to-be had friends spell out “Will You Marry Me” on the beach for his chosen to see from high in the sky.
The folks at the SkyWheel are eager to work with those who want to make the venue their proposal point and will help ensure that special moment is an everlasting memory.

Best Gift Shop
Shopping is always a big hit with anyone visiting the Grand Strand, so why not visit a place that has it all.
Callahan’s of Calabash at 9973 Beach Drive SW in Calabash, N.C., is a gift shop on steroids, offering everything from cheap sunglasses to homemade fudge to exquisite Christmas trees, ornaments and decorations.
The quaint, fishing-village-style shop has plenty of apparel to commemorate your trip: shells from inexpensive to dazzling, jewelry, home furnishings, homemade candy and much, much more.
A whole area of the shop is dedicated to Christmas, where you can find everything from traditional decorations to nautical fare. If you need a pink flamingo tree, you will find it here.
Take home a brass ship fixture or even a painstakingly crafted replica of an old sailing vessel.
Callahan’s of Calabash is less of a store and more of an experience well worth a short drive from Myrtle Beach ... and take advantage of the fresh, local seafood while in town.
