Wal-Mart has submitted plans to Horry County officials to build a new store at the Garden City Beach Connector and U.S. 17 Business, and residents are already expressing mixed reactions.
The proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter would be 184,000 square feet, plus a 14,700-square-foot garden center, between Jamestown Drive and the connector, beside Wild Wings and the Krispy Kreme.
The project needs approval from county staff members, which could take several months, but doesn't need approval from any county board. The developers will have to incorporate county development criteria, such as proposed turn lanes.
