CONWAY | Jamar Anderson and the Coastal Carolina foot ball team received a scare at practice Monday.
Near the end of the afternoon session, Anderson collapsed and lay motionless on the field. Anderson showed no signs of movement for some 20 minutes.
Eventually, Anderson was able to sit up after an emergency medical crew arrived on the scene and administered care. The junior wide receiver was taken to the Conway Medical Center to be evaluated. He was diagnosed with dehydration, given three bags of fluid and released from the hospital Monday night, CCU coach David Bennett said
``He just passed out,'' Bennett said. ``There was no contact.'' Chanticleers receiver Jon Greene was near Anderson when he crumbled to the ground.
``We just started to go in for a play and he completely fell down,'' Greene said.
The Chanticleers knelt as a group and watched Anderson for 10 minutes or so until Bennett had strength coach Victor Boyd get the team up and moving.
Anderson is competing for a starting job at receiver. MacDowall with starters Coastal Carolina quarterback Zach MacDowall moved ahead of Will Richardson on the depth chart Monday.
Bennett said after watching film, quarterback coach Kevin Brown made the recommen dation that the Wake Forest transfer move up a notch. MacDowall shined in Saturday's scrimmage, throw ing for 173 yards _ 13.3 yards per attempt _ and three touch downs. MacDowall is slated to start the team's final scrim mage 4 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Stadium.
If MacDowall can string together another impressive showing he will be in position for the starting assignment at Penn State.
Though Richardson won the starting assignment in last year's opener at Delaware State, both he and Ren McKin non played in the game. It would not be a surprise to see both Richardson and MacDowall play in the opener.
Childers works out with team Chanticleers quarterback Jamie Childers was back in pads and worked in three of the 12 periods during Monday's practice.
It was Childers' first work in training camp. It marks the beginning of the NCAA's five- day acclimation period. Childers still must get his weight up to 230 pounds to be fully cleared to join the team. Childers weighted in at 224 pounds Monday.
Bennett has ruled Childers out for the opener at Penn State, but did not place a time table for his return after that. Childers missed the first 17 days of training camp after being diagnosed with viral meningitis. He entered camp as the No. 1 quarterback after a strong spring performance.
