Police searching for 3 men after clerk is shot during robbery

Police are searching for three men suspected of being involved in an armed robbery of a gas station where a clerk was shot.

Officers responded to the Carolina Petro and Scotchman Store located on S.C. Highway 544 near U.S. 501 – a short distance from Coastal Carolina University, Horry County police Sgt. Tom DelPercio.

DelPercio said three men went into the store between 4:30 and 5 a.m. Sunday, performed an armed robbery and shot the clerk before running from the area. The clerk was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and was undergoing surgery.

According to information posted to the Horry County Police Department’s official Facebook page, the clerk was complying with suspects when he was shot.

DelPercio said he was unsure of the clerk’s status as of 8 a.m. Sunday.
