A Myrtle Beach man was charged with assault after a road rage incident ended with a man being beaten with a tire iron, according to a police report.

Adrain Duvell Thomas, 25, of Myrtle Beach was charged with first-degree assault and battery after officers were called at 6:15 p.m. Monday to the area of 33rd Avenue North and Kings Highway, police said.

Witnesses told police that a 33-year-old man was beaten with a tire iron and they identified Thomas as the suspect, according to the report. Both Thomas and the victim had left the scene when police arrived and witnesses said the victim chased after Thomas.

Officers found Thomas in the parking lot at 3701 N. Kings Highway and Thomas said the victim cut him off in traffic and that started the incident, according to the report. Thomas said he followed the victim and assaulted him.

While talking with Thomas, the officer learned the victim returned to the parking lot where the assault occurred and the officer went there to speak with him, according to the report. The victim had a severe cut to the back of his head, cuts and bruises to his left arm, knee and hand.

The victim told police there was a traffic related incident that occurred before he was assaulted with the tire iron, according to the report. Officers also learned Thomas and the victim live near each other and Thomas seemed to know the victim, who said he didn’t know Thomas.
