Officers from multiple agencies served about 50 drug distribution arrest warrants and arrested 21 people Wednesday in a year-long investigation, according to Donald Tempalsky, deputy commander with the 15th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit.

The DEU, along with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the State Law Enforcement Division, launched an investigation about a year ago into heroin sales in the Pawleys Island area.

“Agents worked for several months on ‘Operation Beach Sweep’ to obtain the arrest warrants, and a search warrant, that they believe will significantly affect the heroin distribution in Georgetown County,” Tempalsky said.

Police searched a home at 229 Green Drive in Pawleys Island Wednesday where authorities found drugs and arrested Andiza Simmons and Melinda Green.

Simmons, 39, is charged with second offense possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia and two counts of being a felon in possession of a handgun. He remains jailed at the Georgetown County Detention Center.

Green, 35, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released from the Georgetown County Detention Center Wednesday on $500 bond.

Authorities seized more than $12,000 cash, more than 67 grams of crack cocaine, several grams of heroin, and undisclosed amounts of powder cocaine and marijuana packaged for sale.

Several marijuana plants found while serving an arrest warrant in Pawleys Island, also were seized. Also seized were a loaded .380 handgun and a loaded 9mm handgun.

A judge on Thursday denied bond for Christopher Brown and Elijah Antonio “Tony” Brown, who Tempalsky said are the two main targets of the investigation. Christopher Brown, 22, is charged with five counts of first offense distribution of LSD.
