PLANES: FIRE & RESCUE
Rating: PG for action and some peril
What it's about: Dusty the racing crop duster learns to be an aerial firefighter.
The kid attractor factor: Talking, wisecracking airplanes and fire trucks.
Good lessons / bad lessons: "You can't outrun a fire," and "Life doesn't always go the way you expected."
Violence: Scary forest fire scenes.
Language: Profanity of the "I kicked Aston-Martin out there," and "Oh, Chevy," variety.
Sex: Flirting amongst the aircraft.
Drugs: Well, there are scenes set in a bar / honkytonk.
Parents' advisory: Though it shows more effort and wit than the first "Planes," this sequel still skews young - OK for all ages, best for 8-and-under.
THE PURGE: ANARCHY
Rating: R for strong disturbing violence, and for language
What it's about: A future where people can act out their sickest, most violent revenge fantasies, for only one night, is further explored with a new cast.
The kid attractor factor: Horror without a supernatural touch, violence seemingly without consequences, Zach Gilford.
Good lessons / bad lessons: Wise men and women know that revenge does not taste sweet. But the rich had better watch their backs.
Violence: Lots and lots, explicit, too.
Language: Profanity in profusion.
Sex: Threats of rape.
Drugs: Alcohol, pills.
Parents' advisory:First-person shooter video-game-violent with a sermon that will go right over the heads of children - OK for 15-and-up.
