MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Myrtle Beach is among some major American tourism sites that was the target of a malware virus over the July 4th holiday weekend.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported (http://bit.ly/1qmXoYI) that data security company Proofpoint Inc., said Myrtle Beach is one of the websites affected by the problem.
Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce President Brad Dean said the company that manages visitmyrtlebeach.com quickly fixed the problem. Dean said he has not heard of any problems but officials are monitoring the situation.
Other locations affected included Boston, Houston, Monterey, Rochester, Salt Lake City, Utah Valley and Victoria.
Proofpoint said the attack started just before the July 4th holiday and said the attack appeared to be based in the Ukraine.
