One dead and five sent to hospital after Thursday evening crash on US. 17 Bypass

Five people were sent to a nearby hospital and one is dead following a crash Thursday night on U.S. 17 Bypass in Georgetown County.

The crash occurred around 8 p.m. and involved a Chrysler 300 and a Chevy Trailblazer. The Chrysler 300 was traveling south on U.S. 17 Bypass when it attempted to cross the highway and was struck by the Trailblazer, according to Sgt. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Chrysler, whose name was not immediately released, died and four passengers in the car were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Trailblazer was also taken to Grand Strand Regional. Conditions of those in the hospital were not immediately available.
