Horry County school board nixes planned expansion of district office

vgrooms@thesunnews.comJuly 1, 2014

— The Horry County school board amended its new short-term facility plan Monday night by removing an expansion that was planned for Horry County Schools’ district office.

Board member Janice Morreale proposed scrapping the expansion, which was to cost $2 million, and putting that money toward sustainment, which the board approved. Morreale said there are a lot of sustainment projects that are being put off because the district just can’t afford them.

The $427.6 million plan, which was approved June 9, outlines building projects for the next 10 years and included $70 million for sustainment. It also provides for school additions at North Myrtle Beach Middle, Midland Elementary and Aynor Middle schools, as well as the construction of six new school buildings.
