A man is facing charges in connection with a fatal apartment shooting in Carolina Forest, Horry County police Lt. Robert Kelger said.

Kegler said the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are possible.

Delshawn Anthony Davis, 29, of Conway is charged with murder. Davis turned himself in to police Tuesday in connection with the shooting Saturday.

Police found Dexter Smith, 26, with gunshot wounds about 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Canterbury Apartments, where he lived, according to an Horry County police report. Smith was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he later died from the wounds.

An officer was on patrol near the apartment complex, which is located off Carolina Forest Boulevard near U.S. 501, when dispatchers received a call about gunshots being fired there, according to the report. The officer found a gold Ford Expedition had crashed into a Toyota Corolla in the parking lot.

Smith was found on the ground next to the Ford and had suffered several gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach and arm, according to the report. Some bystanders had begun CPR on Smith until EMS arrived at the scene.

Witnesses told officers they heard between four and six gunshots from the parking lot and saw a Chrysler 300 speed off after the gunfire, according to the report. Officers seized five shell casings from the area.
