Saturday’s area sports briefs

The South AA/AAA team, loaded with local talent, defeated the South A/AAAA team 8-7 in the championship game on Saturday at the Ripken Experience, while the North A/AAAA team defeated the North AA/AAA team 6-2.

On the South AA/AAA roster was Brandon Young (Aynor), Seth Wall (Georgetown), Tanner Chock (Loris), Landon Edwards (Myrtle Beach), Hunter Renfrow (Socastee), Trent Revis (St. James). Ryan Flynn of Carolina Forest was the only area player on the South A/AAAA team.

Select series

Carolina Forest’s Robert Jolly, a Clemson commit, was named the SC select all-star MVP after South Carolina defeated North Carolina 6-1 on Friday. Jolly was 2-3 with a double and 4 RBIs, leading the SC team to victory and a 2-0 game sweep.

Ellis skills camp to begin

Coastal Carolina head basketball coach Cliff Ellis will hold his annual basketball skills camp from June 23-27.

The camp is for boys and girls ages 9-15 and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The cost is $125 per child. Registration will be held on June 23 at 8:30 a.m., with the camp beginning after. Counselors include members of the Chanticleers coaching staff and players.
