Horry County police confirm shooting at Canterbury Apartments

Horry County Police confirmed a shooting occurred Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of Canterbury Apartments.

Antonio Dexter Smith, 24, of Myrtle Beach, has been identified as the victim. Police say an autopsy is planned for Sunday.

“Major Crimes Detectives are on scene investigating at this time,” said Lt. Robert Kegler of the police department via email. “There is no suspect information to release as of this email. I will keep you updated as new information is given to me for release.”

Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard could not be reached for comment.

It was unknown Saturday at 7:30 p.m. whether police had a suspect in custody.

Canterbury Apartments is located east of U.S. 501 along Carolina Forest Boulevard.
