North Myrtle Beach fire chief named president of state association

North Myrtle Beach Fire Chief Tom Barstow was named president of the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Chief Tom Barstow was named president of the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs on June 11, according to a press release.

Barstow has been employed by the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department for 33.5 years and has served as North Myrtle Beach’s Fire Chief for 18 years. Barstow has also served the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs as third, second and first vice president.

“We are very proud of Tom and his exemplary service to the City of North Myrtle Beach and to the Association of Fire Chiefs,” said North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Director Jay Fernandez in the release. “He is known locally and statewide for his commitment and expertise, and for the great service he provides to residents and visitors alike.”

The South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association’s 109th Annual S.C. Fire-Rescue Conference is currently being held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. It began June 9 and continues through June 14. Events include EMT competitions, a 5K race at The Market Common on June 14, and a blood drive on June 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit www.scfirefighters.org/fire-rescue for more information.
