Newsmakers | Seven seniors awarded scholarships from Brunswick rotary club

The Rotary Club of South Brunswick Islands presented scholarships to seven West Brunswick High seniors at its weekly meeting at Ocean Ridge Plantation.

Club president Jennifer Vanasse recognized each of the students who spoke for several minutes about their college plans and what the scholarship meant to them.

The winners were:

• Rosario Dominguez-Tapia of Sunset Beach. She received a $1,000 scholarship and will attend North Carolina State University.

• Meg Fletcher of Shallotte. She received a $1,000 scholarship and will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

• Amber Fulford of Supply. She received a $500 scholarship and will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

• Sharante Gore of Calabash. She received a $1,000 scholarship and will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

• Gregory Johnson of Ash. He received an SBI Rotary endowed scholarship to attend Brunswick Community College.

• Alvaro Rendon of Ocean Isle Beach. He received a Dan and Linda Lynes Endowed Scholarship to attend Brunswick Community College.

• Benjamin Simmons of Ash. He received a $500 Richard Lancaster Band Service Award and will be attending Brunswick Community College.
