Police were called Monday afternoon to a waiting room at Conway Medical Center after two men fought while waiting for a pregnant woman to be checked because she was having labor pains, according to a police report.

Officers were called at 12 p.m. Monday to the hospital at 300 Singleton Ridge Road for a fight in the labor and delivery wing, police said.

Both men, age 20, had left the hospital before police arrived.

Officers learned that a woman had come to the hospital after she experienced labor pains and one man, who is a friend, and her family were in the waiting room when the other man, who is the father of the baby, walked in and hit the man, according to the report.

Witnesses said the men briefly fought and broke a glass curio cabinet, valued at $1,200, according to the report. About $300 worth of items inside the cabinet that included baby blankets and stuffed animals can not be sold because of glass in the cloth.

A nurse told police she heard a loud fight and went to see what was going on when she was confronted by a man running down the hall toward her, according to the report. She tried to stop the man, but he threatened to return with a gun.

No other details were listed in the report.
