Investigation continues into Conway fatal fire

Conway authorities continued Monday to investigate a fire that killed one person and hurt another at a home on Hiland Avenue.

Jeremy Carter, a battalion chief with Conway Fire Rescue said Monday that an investigation continued into the blaze that was reported about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said that John Henry Smith, 77, died in the fire at his home at 1700 Hiland Ave. in Conway.

The fire was under control by 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Conway police Lt. Selena Small said.

Horry County firefighters assisted Conway authorities during the blaze.
