Teen reports purse snatching in Myrtle Beach

A 19-year-old woman told Myrtle Beach police that a man snatched her purse from her arm while she walked along Ocean Boulevard and spoke to her mother on her cellphone, according to a police report.

The victim called officers just before 4 a.m. Thursday to the area of 23rd Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard to report the incident, police said.

The victim said she left a friend’s hotel room and was walking to her hotel and talking to her mother on her cellphone when she saw a man walk towards her, according to the report. The victim said she ignored the man and continued to walk, but he started to follow her.

The victim said she told the man her friends were nearby, but he grabbed her purse from her shoulder, which caused her to fall to the ground, according to the report. The victim said she chased after the man, who ran to the beach, before she went to get help.

The victim suffered cuts to her legs and elbow, according to the report. No other details were listed in the report.
