Horry County police have a man in custody after a deadly shooting Sunday morning in the Myrtle Beach area.

Charles Royal, 31, of Myrtle Beach was pronounced dead at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Horry County chief deputy coroner Tamara Willard said.

Officers detained a 33-year-old man early Sunday after a shooting on Citation Way in Broadway Station off of 38th Avenue North.

It is against The Sun News policy to name a suspect who has not been formally charged. Police said the man is expected to be charged on Monday.

Broadway Station is in a Myrtle Beach “doughnut hole” – an unincorporated area of Horry County completely surrounded by the city.
