Coastal Carolina’s Nelson qualifies for NCAAs in high jump

From staff reportsMay 31, 2014

— Coastal Carolina’s Reggie Nelson qualified for the NCAA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the high jump Saturday.

Nelson cleared 7 feet and a quarter inch on his third try to tie for 10th in the NCAA East Preliminary and secure one of 12 spots for the main event June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.

Last year, Nelson came one spot short of advancing.

“It was thrilling,” Chanticleers coach Jeff Jacobs said. “After finishing 13th last year, it’s serious redemption.”

Coastal’s men’s 1,600-meter relay team – DeAndra Lipscomb, Corey Hackett-Greene, Alex Hass and Stevie Brunson – set a school record in finishing 16th (3:08.12) and the women’s squad – Jessica Gelibert, Camille Hurley, Cristal Green and Teka Simpson – in the same event placed 16th (3:36.47 ).
