The S.C. Department of Natural Resources is offering courtesy boat inspections during Memorial Day weekend, as National Safe Boating Week continues.

DNR boating safety and enforcement officers will perform a quick but thorough inspection for items like the required safety equipment and proper boat and motor registration. Anyone not in compliance will not be ticketed during the check.

Officers also will provide tips on staying safe on the water.

Boating violations including reckless operation or intoxicated operators can be reported by calling the toll-free hotline at 1-800-922-5431. For information on free float plans or safety courses, call 1-800-277-4301 or visit the education page at www.dnr.sc.gov.

DNR officers will be at the following sites in or near Horry County this weekend.

The Galivants Ferry Landing on the Little Pee Dee River from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on May 23 in Marion County.

The Johnny Causey Landing on the Intracoastal Waterway in Little River from 10 a.m. to noon May 24.

The Murrells Inlet Landing in Georgetown County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 25.
