A fire at Don’s Car Crushing in Conway closed S.C. 544 for more than an hour Tuesday, said Horry County Fire Rescue spokesman Julius Graham.

Graham said units were dispatched about 1:45 p.m. where a an old car ignited while a scrap pile burned.

He said S.C. 544 was shut down because crews had to lay hose line down across the highway to access water.

The fire was put under control about 3 p.m., Graham said, and the highway reopened shortly after. There was no information on damages at the business.
