A man is dead and another is hospitalized after they were hit by a truck while crossing U.S. Highway 17 business Saturday night, police said.

Robert Watson, 45, of the Garden City area died at the scene from multiple trauma caused by being struck by a vehicle, Horry County deputy coroner Darris Fowler said.

According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, Watson and another man were crossing U.S. 17 business near Atlantic Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday when a Ford F-350 pickup truck was heading south.

The driver struck the pedestrians where Watson died on the scene. The second man was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. That person’s condition was unknown Sunday.

The driver was not injured, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
