Rising seventh- and eighth-graders in Horry County can apply to attend iTeams, the Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship Among Middle Schoolers summer day camp, sponsored by the S.C. Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics.

The camp – started in collaboration with Google – is designed to inspire students to pursue careers in computer science, technology and entrepreneurship through hands-on, team-based projects. Students will select one of three challenges: developing mobile apps using App Inventor, designing video games using Alice 3D software or creating an interactive object using the MaKey MaKey invention kit.

The iTeams camps are free and held at different sites around the state. This is the first year the camp will be held in Horry County, and it will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 28-31 at Conway Middle School, 1104 Elm St., Conway. Lunch will be provided, and bus transportation will be available from the high school in each attendance area.

The deadline to apply is Monday. Students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. At least 100 students will be able to attend.

For more information, contact iTeams coordinator LaChanda Hare at 843-383-3901 or lnhare@gssm.k12.sc.us, or visit http://www.scgssm.org/programs-clubs/iteams.
