The body of a man who died of an apparent self-inflicted knife wound was discovered on the beach at Garden City Point Tuesday morning, officials said.

Mark Teesdale, 46, of Surfside Beach was found by beachgoers, said Georgetown County Coroner Kenneth Johnson. He said 911 was notified at about 11:27 a.m.

The injuries were consistent with what appeared to be a self-inflicted knife wound, Johnson said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, and the case is still under investigation, he said.

More details will be posted as they become available.
