Dear Reader | Kudos to a Pulitzer-prize winning colleague

Dear ReaderApril 14, 2014

I’ll be mercifully short with this week’s column and let the pictures do the talking.

But I couldn’t let the announcement that Kevin Siers, editorial cartoonist at The Charlotte Observer, a fellow McClatchy News Co., news organization, had won the Pulitzer Prize go without remark.

For journalists, the Pulitzer’s are akin to Academy Awards, and as I believe these images show, Kevin’s talent is clearly Pulitzer-worthy.

The talents of editorial cartoonists are rare indeed. Somehow, these artists manage to distill a complex issue into a single image that captures its essence in a way that no amount of words or even photographs could do.

Or, as the judges described Siers’ work: “Thought provoking cartoons drawn with a sharp wit and bold artistic style.”

See what you think. Thanks for viewing, and reading.
