The Conway Police Department had joined 38 other law enforcement agencies in the state to receive accreditation from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Council, according to a Thursday news release.

On March 13, Chief Reggie Gosnell and Lt. Selena Small accepted the certificate of accreditation for the department, which is the first agency in Horry County to complete the process, according to Small. The accreditation process began two years ago by updating policies and operational procedures to meet the standards for the certification.

As part of the accreditation, all areas of the department were inspected to determine if certain standards and practices were being met, Small said. Members of the council also visited the department in December.
