Two Surfside Beach police officers were honored at the S.C. Department of Public Safety office of highway safety recognition ceremony for work in DUI related cases, said Surfside Beach Police Chief Rodney Keziah. The awards are designed to recognize state and local law enforcement officers for excelling in the area of DUI arrests, victim services and anti-underage drinking programs, he said.
Cpl. Christopher King was named DUI officer of the year for agencies with 11 to 25 officers. He arrested 55 drivers who were driving under the influence in 2013. King is the agency liaison the 15th Circuit Law Enforcement Network and the Horry County Community Action for Safer Tomorrow Program (CAST).
Officer Nicole Solorzano received the S.C. DUI rookie of the year award, which is presented to an officer in the state who has been serving less than one year. Solorzano started working for Surfside Beach in 2013 and arrested 10 people who were driving under the influence during the remainder of the year.
Keziah said he is proud of the officers and “their commitment to the safety of the residents and visitors of Surfside Beach.”
