Myrtle Beach man charged in assault after man left unconscious in Broadway at the Beach club

A 33-year-old Myrtle Beach man was charged with assault in connection with a 39-year-old being knocked unconscious inside a Broadway at the Beach club after the man saw his girlfriend with the victim, according to a police report.

William Gary Surface, 33, of Myrtle Beach was charged with second-degree assault and battery after officers were called at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday to Broadway Louie’s at 1318 Celebrity Circle, police said.

Officers found the victim had been knocked out and learned from witnesses that Surface came into the bar and saw his girlfriend with the victim, according to the report. Witnesses said the victim and woman were friendly at the bar and the victim told Surface he was friends with the woman.

Witnesses said that Surface got upset and the woman tried to calm him down, but he punched the victim, which left him on the floor unconscious, according to the report. The witnesses told officers that Surface punched the victim several times while the victim was on the floor.

Officers learned the victim needed multiple stitches to his face and it would require anesthesia while he was being treated at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
