HTC Digital Cable customers will continue to have channels such as MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Spike and others as negotiations with Viacom over programming fees continues, HTC said Tuesday morning.

The deadline for the deal was 12 a.m. Tuesday, but HTC said Tuesday morning that it had secured a short-term extension with Viacom to keep the channels as negotiations continue.

HTC is a member of the National Cable Television Cooperative, which is negotiating the programming fees for more than 800 independent cable television operators.

HTC customers were in jeopardy of losing about 15 channels until the companies agreed on the short-term extension, including TV Land, Nicktoons, MTV2, VH1 Classic and others.
